Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in South Korea’s Goyang city is set for a 672.6 billion won (US$471 million) expansion, scheduled for completion in 2028.

Groundbreaking of KINTEX Exhibition Center 3 will begin on 23 October, with full-scale construction slated to begin in December.

KINTEX Exhibition Center 3 will comprise Exhibition Hall 3A, spanning 47,000 sqm and featuring four halls and six conference rooms, and Hall 3B, covering 12,000 sqm with two halls.

The expansion will bring KINTEX’s total space to 170,000 sqm across three exhibition centres – nearly five times larger than Seoul’s Coex, which offers 36,007 sqm.

The city of Goyang estimates that the third exhibition hall will generate 64.6 trillion won in annual production and create 30,000 jobs, while stimulating regional development in tandem with nearby projects like Ilsan Techno Town, Broadcasting and Media Valley, and the free economic zone.

Stay and meet in Goyang

In line with the groundbreaking, Goyang is accelerating efforts to build a “stay-and-meet” MICE model, integrating lodging, transportation, and visitor amenities.

A new Novotel Ambassador KINTEX, offering around 300 rooms, will be developed near the venue. Construction is set to begin with site work in May and full building in June, targeting completion in 2029.

With the addition of the Novotel to existing hotels such as Sono Calm (826 rooms) and K-Tree (422 rooms), the area will offer approximately 1,500 rooms, enhancing accommodation options for international delegates and event visitors.

A multiuse parking complex of 41,844 sqm – with space for about 1,000 vehicles – will also begin construction in early 2026. An adjacent outdoor lot for 800 vehicles was completed on 1 October near Hall 3B. When the parking structure opens in the first half of 2028, KINTEX’s total parking capacity will reach 7,400 vehicles. The site will also gain a direct connection to KINTEX Station on the GTX-A line.

According to Mayor Lee Dong-hwan, the city has spent the past three years building a “three-pronged foundation” of facilities, competitiveness, and organisational systems to establish itself as a global MICE hub.
