Dubai has revealed an ambitious plan to introduce the world's inaugural flying taxi service, potentially taking flight by 2026. The groundbreaking initiative stems from a partnership between California's Joby Aviation and Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA).

Joby's innovative air taxis, resembling sleek helicopters, feature electric engines for reduced noise and disruption, boasting a top speed of 322km/hr and accommodating up to four passengers plus a pilot for swift and efficient travel.

Under the exclusive six-year agreement, Joby will operate air taxis in Dubai, with Skyports designing and managing the first four 'vertiport' sites at strategic locations including Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, and Dubai Downtown.

Dubai is set to become the first location in the world with a commercial, citywide electric air taxi service, Skyports said, signifying a major leap in urban air mobility development.
