Two of Madrid Convention Bureau’s strategic pillars are respect for the environment and promoting events that are mindful of the destination. In recent years, these pillars have been brought to life through a range of initiatives, including the practical sustainability and legacy guides available on its website, and the PLUS online platform, which provides comprehensive management of the social and environmental sustainability of events held in Madrid.

It combines a robust economy, safe environment and highly developed transport infrastructure, with 218 direct flight connections to destinations worldwide. Our pleasant climate and rich natural environment – both in the city and its surroundings – together with its wide range of hotels and venues and its artistic and cultural heritage, further enhance Madrid’s appeal as an outstanding MICE destination capable of meeting the needs of the most demanding organisers and attendees.

Madrid is considered one of Southern Europe’s top economic drivers: the region has the fifth-highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the EU and stands out for its high GDP per capita. The city of Madrid is also Europe’s second-largest hub for cross-border greenfield investment projects.

The city boasts a diversified business landscape and is home to the headquarters of over 200 multinational companies, many of which appear in rankings like Fortune 500. It also serves as a hub for national and international institutions such as UN Tourism. The capital also provides excellent access to the European and African markets due to its strategic geographical location, while its historical, cultural and linguistic ties make it a key gateway to Latin America.

In addition, Madrid boasts exceptional entrepreneurial dynamism, with over 3,500 active startups, accelerators and a growing tech ecosystem, particularly in sectors like fintech, digital health, mobility and energy. One reason for this is that the city has become Southern Europe’s telecommunications and data hotspot. These industries – along with others such as cybersecurity, video games and big data – receive targeted support from Madrid City Council to further their development in the city and to facilitate the organisation of meetings linked to these sectors.

The ease of doing business in Madrid, thanks to its legal framework and the availability of highly qualified talent, further strengthens its profile as a global economic hub. Madrid has 11 Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS), 7 institutes for advanced studies and an extensive network of science and technology parks.
