Melbourne is set to host Australia's largest dental meet next month, from 6 to 8 May, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) — which can now receive up to 10,000 attendees per event space per day, or 75% of its total capacity.
Organised by the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA), the Australian Dental Exhibition (ADX) is expected to attract more than 5,000 in-person dentists and allied oral healthcare professionals from around Australia, attending a programme of seminars and networking events over a 9,000+ sqm exhibition area.
With support from the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB), the ADX is also projected to generate more than AUD$16.2 million (US$12.5 million) in economic contribution to Victoria’s visitor economy, as well as stimulate more trade opportunities for local businesses.
The dentistry meet is one of 25 international and national business events secured by the bureau this financial year, in total expected to inject AU$124.9 million into the Victorian economy over the next few years.
“National events of this calibre deliver a strong proof point that business events in Melbourne are indeed back in action. Hosting the ADX 2021 allows us to showcase the very best that Victoria has to offer visitors from across the country and give a much need boost in confidence right across the Victorian business events supply chain," said MCB CEO, Julia Swanson.
Kym De Britt, CEO at ADIA added that "getting to this point underscores the terrific support received from MCB when starting to plan the event".
One such support available for local planners is the recently announced National Business Events Program, with the Victorian State Government offering funds of up to AU$25,000 to encourage interstate organisations to hold their events in Victoria before December 2022.
This amount can be put towards costs associated with venue hire, accommodation, transport and other event costs, with 50% payable before the event commences to support upfront expenses.
“Melbourne has always been an innovator in the events space and if you have ever wanted to host your event in Melbourne, now is the time to get planning,” said Swanson.

Victoria's funding announcement follows the rollout of the federal government's AU$50 million Business Events Grants Program last September, covering up to 50% of planning costs for eligible conventions, incentives and exhibitions.
