Macao boasts of venues, hotels, transport and attractions which are all within close proximity, minimising logistics, time and cost for MICE planners. With over 240,000 sqm of meeting venues and 43,000 hotel rooms, MICE planners can host events from 10 pax to 20,000 pax.

Track record

Macao has held successful events such as the USANA BabyCare Sales Convention in April 2023. It was USANA BabyCare’s first national conference post-pandemic and the number of delegates exceeded 10,000.

Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) formed a “MICE Bidding and Support Team” alongside local MICE industry partners and the six integrated resorts in June 2023. The goal of the team is to bid and bring more conventions and exhibitions to Macao.

A key element of IPIM’s MICE strategy for 2023 has been to provide best-in-class education and training for the local industry partners. The 34th Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM China) learning programme undertaken by IPIM helps accumulatively cultivate around 280 certified exhibition managers in Macao.

Over 100 of its partners have participated in our training programmes. In 2024, IPIM will continuously hold online and offline training towards industry partners and MICE-related students. Also, with the joint effort of “MICE Bidding and Support Team there will be more international recognised MICE training in Macao.

IPIM aims to have 1,500 events in Macao in 2024, including UFI Asia Pacific Conference 2024.

The Hengqin connection

Macao is working closely with Hengqin (in the south of Guangdong Province, next to Macao) to provide more venue options and flexibility for MICE planners to stage event in both places, under a “One Event, Two Places” format.

A new brand image, “MICE² Macao x Hengqin”, was launched this year to promote the concept of “multi-venue events”, together with online and offline promotional activities to strengthen Macao and Hengqin’s profile and positioning the cities as MICE destinations.

Such collaboration has already yielded positive results. The 1st China (Macao) High-quality Consumption Exhibition & Hengqin Global Bay Areas Forum and BEYOND Expo 2023 were successfully held, further promoting the novelty of “multi-venue events”

1+4 strategy

The Macao Special Administrative Region Government has proposed a “1+4” moderate diversification development strategy. “1” represents the compressive tourism and leisure industry, while “4”represents the four key industries: health and wellness, modern finance, high technology, convention and exhibition commerce and cultural sports.

This will facilitate the internationalisation and professionalism of Macao’s MICE industry by combining local policies, resources and industry advantages of Macao, assisting in winning the bid for more MICE events.
