BANGKOK - Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) is stepping up efforts to woo MICE tourists from Asia Pacific on the back of a successful campaign in FY 2019.

The earlier ASEANMaxiMICE campaign, which targeted travellers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, attracted over 1,000 tourists generating 73 million baht (US$2.41 million).

In FY 2020, TCEB has once again joined hands with THAI Airways and its subsidiary THAI Smile Airways to launch this campaign from Oct 2019 to Sept 2020. With a broadened scope that now includes 15 Asia Pacific countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and India), the campaign is expected to draw 10,000 tourists to Thailand.

As part of the cooporation, qualifying corporate groups can earn privileges including special priced air tickets, a VIP fast track or MICE lane at Suvarnabhumi Airport and cultural performancesm, depending on their level: Silver, Gold and Platinum. Groups must comprise at least 40 tourists and spend at least two nights in Thailand.

"TCEB plans to support MICE by targeting the corporate market in the meeting & incentive industry, which would bring more events to Thailand. As a result, this will generate economic benefit, in response of the Government's policy to boost the national economy, and create a favourable image for the country as the main destination for meetings & incentives in the APAC region," said Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, president of TCEB.

To boost campaign awareness in the Australian and Chinese markets, TCEB will hold a Thailand MICE road show in February and March 2020, added the TCEB president, with fam trips organised to destinations in both airlines' route network.

The Thailand Incentive and Meeting Exchange (TIME) 2020 will also be organised "with the goal of positioning Thailand as the main MICE destination for the APAC region," he said.

Through the APAC MaxiMICE campaign, tourists from the 15 APAC countries on THAI and THAI Smile flights will obtain privileges such as special airfare, complimentary air ticket, additional five kilograms of baggage allowance, priority boarding, pre-assigned group seating, special advanced group check-in, on board announcement and customised seat cover.

Group reservations can be made from Dec 4, 2019 until Aug 31, 2020 for travel beginning on Jan 1 until Sept 30, 2020.
