Event professionals in Sarawak can now add a new certification to their belt, as the state becomes the first destination in Malaysia to host the Level 3 Event Design Certificate (EDC) programme.

This Swiss-based international certification, recognised by the Events Industry Council, will enable event practitioners in the state to obtain the Certified Event Designer (CED) designation.

The EDC programme, made possible by BESarawak in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (MACEOS) and local partner ARC Creators, equips candidates with a comprehensive understanding of event design through the use of the Event Canvas Methodology.

This strategic management tool focuses on developing event and conference models that measure success through behaviour change. Upon completion of the programme, which consists of a three-day professional course and a six-month coaching period, candidates will develop the skills and tools for creating innovative and impactful events.

CEO of BESarawak, Amelia Roziman, stated that "Not only can our partners deliver quality international business events, but widen their opportunities to collaborate with the private and government sectors to propose more events that will provide a platform to develop Sarawak's economies and support social development, contributing to the state's social and economic transformation," said Amelia Roziman, BESarawak’s CEO.

Such education and training programmes will help to develop and nurture human capital in the business events industry, which in turn will contribute to the growth of the local talent pool and help to establish the state as a leading player in the business events sector, according to BESarawak.

BESarawak's general manager for capacity and digital development, Dylan Redas Noel, said that "national and international business event planners have a growing appetite for creative and engaging conventions, hence we are determined to certify more industry partners and raise their professionalism through international courses."

Some 27 industry partners have already registered for the EDC programme and BESarawak is offering subsidies for certification programs to Sarawak-based partners.
