In total, 108 business events are set to take place in Western Australia through to 2024, representing more than 200,000 hotel room nights.
Business Events Perth (BE Perth) has announced a total of 67 national
and international business events won in 2021, set to take place over
the next three years and expected to inject AUD$54 million (US$39
million) into Western Australia's economy.
In total, 108 business events are secured for Western Australia
through to 2024, representing more than 200,000 hotel room nights.
This is in addition to 190 local business events supported in 2021 by Western Australia’s official convention bureau.
“2020 and 2021 have been difficult years for business events due to
the impact of the pandemic. The support of BE Perth’s major
stakeholders; Tourism WA and the City of Perth and our Member Partners
has ensured a strong platform for recovery,” said BE Perth Chair,
Bradley Woods, who started his new role since 28 September 2021. He replaced outgoing Chair, Kevin Skipworth CVO who was in the role for five years.
However, BE Perth CEO Gareth Martin pointed out that while the 67
national and international events secured in 2021 were critical to
securing the path to recovery for Western Australia’s business events
industry, these were not the convention bureau's only strategy at play.
While borders were closed, the bureau ensured a "steady stream" of
local bookings kept venues afloat, and has beefed-up its digital
marketing strategy. .
“This has included our 3D venue tours, new website and interactive
business event planner, as well as our member content creation
programme, which has funded the creation of new marketing assets by our
member venues and suppliers,” Martin said.
“We’ve also broadened our reach beyond our traditional remit, now
with dedicated staff representation in our major national markets, have
sponsored events across Australia through our Keynote Speaker
Initiative, with the condition that those events book Western Australia
for a future year, and also implemented our Member Professional
Development Programme, which supported our members to send their staff
to conferences or training events in the interest of professional
development.”
Organisers of new business events bound for Western Australia can also benefit from an extended funding support.
