PENANG - As Malaysia enters the Recovery Movement Control Order phase, the Malaysian government’s decision to allow domestic business events of up to 250 people has been warmly welcomed by the travel trade.

Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau CEO, Mr Ashwin Gunasekeran said that Business Events Penang is all set to welcome MICE back. The island’s industry partners have worked hard to introduce their respective new 'Welcome Back' hotel room offers and #MeetInPenang packages and bundles to entice meeting planners.

This past month, a dedicated task force team of 25 members of PCEB's industry partners put together the 'Next Normal Guidelines for Business Events Penang', a comprehensive business events guideline book which is being reviewed by the Penang State Health Department, and is scheduled to be launched in late July.

Mr Yusno Yunos, CEO & founder, Evenesis, said: “This is a great news not just for Penang but for the entire business events industry in other states in Malaysia. The government has finally agreed to the proposal put forth by MACEOS to allow business events to run under strict SOPs.

“We welcome this news as it would help us to package our technologies and solutions to event organisers for them to start planning for their next hybrid event, and to venue owners to enable contact tracing within the events' area easily via Evenesis and EveStance.”

“As an industry partner to PCEB, we will be supporting all their business events by providing technologies and event solutions that are cost effective. Recently, we have been approved as one of the government Technology Service Providers (TSPs) under the SME Business Digitalisation Incentive programme.

“Any event organisers who is utilising our technologies, solutions and services right now would be enjoying a matching grant/incentive up to RM 5,000 (US$1,166). This is going to be very helpful as it would lessen the cost involved in running a hybrid event especially during this challenging time.

“PCEB has been made aware about this and is encouraging business event organisers in Penang to take it up immediately before the allocated incentive runs out.”

For Evenesis, this incentive allows its clients, business event organisers, to fully utilise it to subscribe to Evenesis’ offerings. These include online registration; event website/microsite; event mobile App; email and SMS marketing/blast; live Q&A and polling; event analytics/reports; virtual event solutions, among others.
