Penang hosted a record breaking 604 events last year, marking a
nearly three-fold increase from the previous year. These events
contributed significantly to the state's economy, with an estimated
economic impact of RM1,033,856,600 (US$219,572,429).
This was announced at the Business Events Penang 2023 Annual Review
recently at the Penang Marriott Hotel. This event tracked the remarkable
progress achieved by Business Events industry in Penang in 2023 from
bustling conferences to impactful exhibitions.

analyses. Key figures from various sectors and government bodies,
including the chief minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow; the Penang State
Exco for Tourism & Creative Economy, Wong Hon Wai; and the CEO of
Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), Ashwin Gunasekeran,
provided insights into the state's burgeoning MICE landscape.
The event celebrated past achievements and provided insights into the
future prospects awaiting Penang, offering a glimpse into the sectors
expected to thrive in Penang which would pave the way for continued
growth in the business events sector.
With a focus on sustainability, diversity, and excellence, the Annual
Review was aimed at setting the stage for a year of continued growth
and positive experiences for Penang's business events industries.
