Tokyo has always been a hub for business events, but with the growing concern for the environment, there is an increased need for sustainable practices in event planning. Business Events Tokyo, a branch of the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau, recognises this need and has released a new tool to help event organisers understand and reduce their carbon footprint.

The "CO2 Emissions of Your Business Event" calculator is a simple and user-friendly tool that enables event organisers to input primary data to calculate the carbon footprint of their event. By seeing the total CO2 emissions and emissions per person, organisers can have a better understanding of the environmental impact of their event. Summarised and detailed reports are available for download, and organisers can share data with attendees to raise awareness of sustainable events.

Senior director of Business Events Tokyo, Kazuko Toda, highlighted the importance of this tool, stating that it provides a springboard for organisers to start thinking about what they can change from what they have been doing until now and to be more conscious about the environment. This tool not only helps in understanding the carbon footprint of an event but also encourages organisers to take action and manage a more sustainable event.

The release of this tool is a significant step in promoting sustainability in the event planning industry in Tokyo. As more and more event organisers become aware of the environmental impact of their events, it is likely that they will start implementing sustainable practices in their event planning. This tool provides a platform for event organisers to be more conscious of their carbon footprint and take responsibility for the impact of their events on the environment.
