Representatives from the Maharashtra government and JWC pose following the signing of a cooperation agreement to support the development of the Maharashtra Convention Bureau.
The Government of Maharashtra has entered an agreement with Germany-based business events and destination management consultancy JWC to support the development of the Maharashtra Convention Bureau (MCB).
The partnership comes just over a year after Maharashtra became the first Indian state to launch a dedicated state-level convention bureau, unveiled at IMEX Frankfurt 2025 as part of the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024.

Under the memorandum of understanding, JWC will provide strategic advisory services, international market expertise and access to its global industry network. These are expected to prop up the bureau's event attraction efforts, international bidding capabilities and destination positioning.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Sanjay Khandare, Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism), Government of Maharashtra, Vijay Powar, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Tourism, and representatives of JWC, including president and CEO Jochen Witt, partner Sebastian Witt, and managing director, JWC (India), Vijay Sharma.
As India's economic powerhouse and home to Mumbai, the country's financial capital, Maharashtra is seeking to capitalise on growing demand for business events. The state has positioned MICE tourism as a strategic growth sector capable of driving visitor spending, investment and job creation.
With clients spanning more than 30 countries, JWC has worked with destinations on strategy development, event bidding and acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and broader ecosystem growth efforts.
