Yokohama has secured the bid to host the 2028 Annual Meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM), one of the world’s leading international conferences in brain science and neuroscience research.

The congress will take place at PACIFICO Yokohama from 18 to 22 June 2028, and is expected to attract approximately 3,000 delegates, including around 2,500 international participants.

The event marks only the second time the OHBM annual meeting will be held in Japan.

OHBM is a major international academic society focused on brain imaging, neuroscience and neurological disease research, bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals and industry representatives from around the world.

The 2028 meeting will be organised in collaboration with the Japan Human Brain Mapping Society (JHBM), led by presidents Yoshikazu Ugawa and Tetsuya Matsuda.

The successful bid was supported by the Yokohama City Visitors Bureau (YCVB), Pacifico Yokohama, the City of Yokohama and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), alongside local hospitality and tourism stakeholders.

According to organisers, Yokohama was selected for its accessibility, reputation as a centre for science and research, sustainability initiatives, and the scale of PACIFICO Yokohama’s convention facilities and surrounding support infrastructure.

Professor Hiromasa Takemura, chair of the JHBM OHBM2028 Bidding Committee and professor at the National Institute for Physiological Sciences, said the Japanese brain mapping community had worked for years to bring the congress back to Japan.

Pacifico Yokohama is one of Japan’s largest integrated convention complexes and regularly hosts major international scientific and medical congresses.

The win further strengthens Yokohama’s positioning as a destination for global association meetings and knowledge-based events, particularly in the medical and scientific sectors.
