Phu Quoc will soon have its own airline – what Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group hails as the first ‘resort airline’ in the country.
The announcement of Sun PhuQuoc Airways follows a series of major developments for the island. Phu Quoc was recently designated a special administrative zone under An Giang Province and selected as the host destination for APEC 2027.
Sun PhuQuoc’s fleet and routes
Set to begin commercial operations on 1 November 2025, Sun PhuQuoc Airways has already taken delivery of its first three aircraft, including Airbus A321NX and A321CEO models, out of a total of eight planned for operation in 2025.
The fleet is expected to more than triple in size to 25 aircraft by the end of 2026.
By the following year, when Phu Quoc is set to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2027, Sun Group is aiming for a fleet size of around 30 aircraft.
Initial routes will connect Phu Quoc with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang, as well as the key domestic route, Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang.
From December 2025, the airline will launch new routes connecting Hanoi - Da Nang and Cam Ranh–Phu Quoc.
Final piece in Sun Group’s tourism puzzle
Sun Group operates major theme parks and attractions across Vietnam, alongside a growing hospitality portfolio.
According to its chairman, Dang Minh Truong, the airline represents the “final pair of wings” in the company’s tourism investments in Vietnam, which also includes the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport.
Tourism projects in the Sun Group pipeline include the US$2 billion Van Don Integrated Casino and Tourism Complex in Quang Ninh, and US$375 million inland waterway in Danang.
