The extension of Zoom’s popular software targets classes, live shows, events, and even exhibitions, with added ticketing functions.
One of the most successful stories in the technology realm in the
wake of Covid-19, Zoom has stepped into the events and ticketing space
with OnZoom, giving paid users the ability to monetise events for up to
1,000 attendees.
Now in the beta phase, Zoom users will be able to use the video
platform’s ‘event discovery’ function to search the directory for public
events and purchase tickets directly using PayPal and major credit
cards.
Largely targeted to B2C events such as concerts and fitness classes,
the ticketing function could also be harnessed by B2B event planners
looking to integrate zoom into exhibitions and conferences without the
need of a third-party ticketing vendor.
A corporate retreat to Bhutan for Singapore-based private members club, 1880, earlier in March this year, hosted by Druk Asia.
For tour operator, Druk Asia, which specialises in outbound travel to
Bhutan, Zoom’s newest paid live event feature is definitely a way "to
remind [delegates] of the exceptional experiences that await them when
they can travel here again," said Joni Herison, director of partnership,
who intends to use OnZoom as a potential revenue stream to restart
corporate retreats focused on wellness.
"We used to do incentive trips focusing on mindfulness as a key
component; in fact the very last one was in March for a Singapore-based
private members club. There are also quite a few luxury hotel brands
that offer meeting spaces such as Le Meridien Paro Riverfront, Uma
Punakha, Taj Tashi Thimphu, Six Senses Thimphu. Most offer buy-out
options too."
Having already amassed a massive following in the virtual space,
could Zoom's entry into event booking and ticketing be some new
competition players need to be mindful of?
