Hilton Jiuzhaigou Resort – Jiuzhaigou County in Sichuan, China is one of 40 hotel teams recognised in Hilton’s inaugural Travel with Purpose Awards.
Hilton has announced “significant environmental progress” in the hotel group’s sustainability journey since 2008, to reduce carbon emissions, water use and waste generation globally by 2030.
In their latest Travel with Purpose report, the group reported a 50.9% reduction in carbon emissions intensity at managed hotels, a 36.0% reduction at franchised hotels, a 37.1% reduction in water intensity and a 64.7% reduction in landfill waste intensity.
These have allowed Hilton to surpass its 2030 waste reduction goal four years ahead of schedule.
“Through Travel with Purpose, we’re making meaningful, measurable progress across our people, our hotels and our communities – strengthening the experiences we deliver to guests while driving long-term value for our business,” said Katherine Lugar, EVP, corporate affairs, and president, Hilton Global Foundation.
Concurrently, Hilton continues to integrate sustainable practices into new hotel developments, such as the Hilton Garden Inn Brussels Airport.
Launched in 2025, sustainability is built into the design, with geothermal energy, over 600 solar panels and 100% renewable electricity. This is also Belgium’s only hotel to earn BREEAM Excellent, WELL Gold and DGNB Gold certifications.
This year, Hilton also launched its inaugural Travel with Purpose Awards to recognise 40 hotel teams delivering measurable environmental and community impact to their guests and communities.
These include Hilton Jiuzhaigou Resort, China; Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, Thailand; and Hilton Garden Inn Serangoon, Singapore.
