Melbourne has been chosen to host the International Congress of Psychology (ICP) in 2028, which is expected to welcome more than 5,000 global delegates.
The world's largest psychology congress is held every four years. ICP 2028 will run over six days at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and is expected to deliver in excess of AUD$39.2 million (US$29 million) in economic contribution to the local economy.
The bid was led by Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) in partnership with Australian Psychological Society (APS) and with support from the Victorian Government.
According to MCB Chief Executive, Julia Swanson, Melbourne has had a long tradition of scientific exchange and collaboration, and that the "journey to secure this event was two years in the making".
For instance, in view of the pandemic, MCB opted for a suite of virtual and digital assets to connect with ICP key decision makers in presenting Melbourne’s bid, as well as remote filming for a video production.
"We’re thrilled to see Melbourne continuing to win high-profile international business events, demonstrating key decision makers’ confidence to choose Melbourne for their next meeting. We look forward to welcoming the International Congress of Psychology in 2028."
ICP 2028 will mark 40 years since it has been held in Australasia and only for the second time in its 132-year history.
