This year's hybrid festival will include curated walking tours and hands-on workshops for local foodies.
After transiting to a virtual event in 2020, the Singapore Food Festival (SFF) is back this year for a longer period, with new partner events and workshops to work up the appetites of both local and international foodies.
This 28th edition will run over three weekends, from 27 August to 12 September 2021.
F&B partners have doubled to 50 and, together with Singapore Tourism Board, will present a mix of four festival components: 1) live masterclasses; 2) virtual food experiences; 3) partner events and workshops; and 4) SFF food merchandise.
Live masterclasses — both free-to-view and paid — will give participants a chance to learn directly, albeit virtually, from some of Singapore's best chefs, bartenders, and food personalities. Just like last year, selected sessions will also deliver ingredient boxes and food bundles to participants in Bangkok, Chengdu, Manila and Singapore.
Virtual food experiences are also back, bringing foodies around local farms (Kok Fah Farm) and popular enclaves (Little India and Tiong Bahru). This year, however, some of these virtual tours will also be presented in physical formats.
Run by industry partners, these curated walking tours include exploring the Singapore Vegan Festival, and joining Secret Suppers — a game of tasting secret menus all around Singapore.
Instead of relying on mobile vendors to deliver food bundles, recently eased restrictions mean local participants can join the hands-on SFF workshops. There's ang ku kueh (traditional Chinese sweet) making, learning about repurposing food, and a trip to the newly opened Instagram-sensation Museum of Ice Cream for a cocktail and ice cream pairing workshop.
