Sri Lanka has launched its first-ever Conference Ambassador Programme (SLCAP) in an effort to position itself as a leading destination for MICE events. The initiative, a joint effort between Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau and Sri Lankan Airlines, aims to attract international conferences and events to the island, contributing to the country’s economic growth and boosting its tourism industry.
The new programme encourages local professionals from various sectors, including academia, business and government, to act as ambassadors for Sri Lanka. These individuals will help attract international conferences and events by leveraging their networks and expertise to promote Sri Lanka as a viable conference destination.
The 25 ambassadors currently selected under the SLCAP will be tasked with encouraging global associations, companies and organisations to choose Sri Lanka.
The SLCAP also emphasises the importance of sustainable practices, environmental responsibility and social inclusivity within the MICE sector, setting a benchmark for the industry.
SLCAP, CEO of Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts, Mikael Svensson said that the programme paves the way for showcasing Sri Lanka’s unique offerings to the world, including the new Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams Sri Lanka, which can host up to 5,000 delegates under one roof.
