One of the Asia’s best-known tourist destinations, Jeju draws flocks
of visitors attracted to its theme parks, K-drama sites, and natural
attractions. Now South Korea’s biggest and southernmost island is also
making a name for itself as an up-and-coming MICE destination with a
strong focus on sustainability.
Jeju Convention & Visitors Bureau has been amping up its
marketing efforts as well as presence at leading MICE trade shows around
the world to position Jeju as an attractive destination MICE.
At The Meetings Show APAC, Jeju CVB and co-exhibitors showcased the
wealth of unique venues, accommodation as well as expertise in the realm
of MICE on the island, according to April Kim, MICE support manager at
Jeju CVB.
These 10 co-exhibitors include International Convention Center Jeju,
Parnas Hotel Jeju, Jeju Shinhwa World, Jeju Dream Tower Grand Hyatt
Jeju, Amber Hotels & Resorts Group, Spirited Garden, SK Pinx, 9.81
Park, Nuri Communication, and Cube9Jeju.
Of these exhibitions, Parnas Hotel Jeju and Amber Pure Hill Hotels
& Resorts Jeju – both Korean hospitality companies – are new
additions to the island’s accommodation scene.
With an aim to transform into a carbon-neutral island by 2030, Jeju
has been scaling up efforts in renewable energy generation, with wind
and solar farms dotted across the island. Venues like the ICC Jeju
currently in the process of setting up its own solar power generation
facilities, while EVs are readily available for rental across the
island.
Jeju CVB, for instance, has acquired the ISO 20121 certification for
sustainable event management, and supports MICE companies in the
destination to follow suit.
Under the Unique Venues initiative, Jeju has identified 16 parks and
gardens, cultural complexes, active sports venues and luxury hotels. Spirited Garden and 9.81 Park, said Kim, are some
examples of non-traditional venues where MICE events can be held.
