Business is booming for Brisbane's business events sector

From a new alliance to 1,000-pax incentives, Queensland’s capital city is building a reputation as a ‘must visit’ destination.

The Better Brisbane Alliance was recently launched to help fast-track the city’s pursuit of investment, business growth, tourism and events opportunities over the coming decade.

A Nu Skin China incentive hosting 1,000 delegates is just one of many events that will take place in Brisbane, Australia over the course of this year and 2024.

The city’s convention bureau, Brisbane Economic Development Agency, says business events are booming, with "with hundreds of conferences confirmed for the city in 2023", including the world’s largest HIV science conference, the International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science.

Anthony Ryan, CEO of Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA), said the return of international travel was helping the sector to rebound.

“We are excited to welcome more international visitors back to Brisbane this year with a high portion of conferences attracting delegates from overseas,” he said. “Brisbane is a world leader in science, health, technology, agriculture and sustainability which makes our city an attractive destination for the brightest minds in the world to come together.”

Lawrence Zeng, Nu Skin China’s event director, said Brisbane’s diverse MICE offering combined with its outdoor lifestyle made it the obvious choice as a delegate destination. Nu Skin previously held its annual incentive trip for top sales performers in Australia in 2016.

Other events taking place in the city include the Annual Scientific Meeting for the Society of Reproductive Investigation in March , the World Mining Congress in June and the FIP World Congress of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Services in September.

BEDA also recently launched a new initiative, the Better Brisbane Alliance, a forum to help fast-track the city’s pursuit of investment, business growth, tourism and events opportunities over the coming decade.

The alliance features 23 members from bodies including the Queensland Tourism Industry Council and Brisbane Airport Corporation and venues such as Brisbane Powerhouse and Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art.
