Australia is serious about its intent to attract mow incentives and business events with a raft of recent and upcoming shows taking place within the country.

Melbourne, which just hosted AIME 2023, has also been announced as the host city for BestCities Global Alliances’ Global Forum, its flagship event attended by industry thought-leaders, international associations and destinations. The event will be held in January 2024 to coincide with the Australian Open tennis tournament.

Delegates will have an opportunity to extend their stay in Melbourne to attend the matches, with BestCities and Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) planning to maximise the city’s major events calendar to enhance the conference offerings.

One theme under discussion will feature how in-person meetings are critical to cultivating meaningful connections and purpose for meeting planners, associations and delegates. Attendees can look forward to workshops, presentations and hands-on experiences throughout Melbourne that demonstrate the importance of in-person learning and collaboration.

Incentive showcase Dreamtime 2023 is returning to Australia for the first time since 2019, taking place in Adelaide from 7 to 10 November.

The event - which hosts event planners from Asia Pacific, North America and the UK - includes a destination showcase, dedicated media event and business session and networking opportunities, to allow the maximum engagement between Australian industry and international business events’ buyers and media.

Tourism Australia managing director Phillipa Harrison said: “Dreamtime 2023 is a valuable part of our distribution activity to bring qualified planners and media to Australia to experience the wealth of new products available and our world class event delivery.”

Meanwhile, Tourism Australia also recently signed a three-year marketing agreement with Singapore Airlines to promote business events travel to Australia.

The Memorandum of Understanding will see both parties delivering a range of activities to highlight Australia’s strength as a destination for business events and the ease of access provided by Singapore Airlines, which has more than 100 weekly services between Singapore and seven points in Australia.
