Show organisers turn up in full force at SISO CEO Summit 2022

Hundreds gathered for the first time in person since the pandemic to discuss plans to jump-start the industry’s recovery.

More than 300 independent show organizers and C-level executives gathered for the three-day SISO CEO Summit 2022, held late March at The Vinoy Renaissance Resort and Golf Club in St Petersburg, Florida. It was the first in-person gathering for show organisers since the start of the pandemic.

Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) CEO David Audrain was quoted as having expressed enthuasiasm at the buzz and energy of the attendees, and said that it boded well for the strong resumption of business for the leaders in the industry.

Independent show organiser CEOs who were in attendance included Informa Markets CEO Charlie McCurdy; RX Global CEO Hugh Jones; Emerald CEO and President Hervé Sedky; Tarsus Group CEO Doug Emslie; Clarion Events CEO Russell Wilcox; and Diversified Communications CEO Ted Wirth.

During the summit, Sedkey handed the reins to SISO’s incoming chair, Cassandra Farrington, president of Anne Holland Ventures and co-founder, strategic advisor and board chair emeritus of MJBiz, which was sold to Emerald in January.

Farrington was quoted as having prioritised the continuity of community building and advocacy work that have been instrumental in pulling the industry through the pandemic.

Topics at the summit addressed the new normal for events, the future course of the pandemic, using data to grow audience and community, and the state of mergers and acquisitions. The Women’s Executive Forum focused on the issue of managing through a crisis.
