The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre has become the first business events venue in Malaysia to subscribe to the Green Electricity Tariff (GET).
In a groundbreaking move, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC)
has become the first business events venue in Malaysia to subscribe to
the Green Electricity Tariff (GET).
The GET Programme, developed through collaboration between the
Malaysian Government and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the country's
largest electricity utility company, aims to empower electricity users
nationwide to reduce their carbon footprint in electricity consumption.
This subscription allows KLCC to power its world-class facilities and
events with renewable energy sources, including solar power from
Malaysia's Large-Scale Solar (LSS) Programme and TNB's hydropower and
renewable energy plants. This initiative marks a significant leap
towards the centre's ambitious goal of becoming a net-zero carbon venue
by 2030.
John Burke, general manager of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre,
stated, "Our objective was to shift at least 25% of our energy to
renewable sources by 2030, but the subscription to GET has enabled us to
do this much more quickly. By subscribing to GET, we have ensured that
our clients' events will be powered by green energy."
KLCC's commitment to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG)
targets is in line with industry principles and Malaysia's
sustainability agenda. Not only will the latest initiative position the
centre as a sustainability leader in the business events industry, it is
expected to benefit the environment and enhances its attractiveness as
the preferred venue for both international and domestic events.
