Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre has completed the first phase of a technology investment that includes Australia’s first lighting system.
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre has completed the first stage of a multi-million-dollar technology upgrade, installing new lighting, sound and signal distribution systems across its four exhibition halls.
The works include an Australian-first GDS lighting system comprising 168 LED fixtures and more than 840 individually controllable colour channels. The system can be used across the venue or programmed separately for individual halls, depending on event requirements.
The first phase also includes new speakers, upgraded cabling and a broadcast-standard network-based signal distribution system designed to streamline the movement of visual content and audiovisual signals through the venue.
The venue said the investment would give organisers more production options for exhibitions, gala dinners and special events, while reducing setup complexity for some briefs.
Nick Jeffrey, general manager of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, said the upgrade was intended to support more flexible event delivery and give clients greater control over lighting and atmosphere.
“We want organisers to see the Exhibition Halls as a creative canvas, not simply a space to fill. This technology gives us greater scope to shape the atmosphere and identity of an event from the moment delegates walk through the doors,” Jeffrey said.
The upgrade forms part of the venue’s A$3 million technology investment over the past 18 months. GCCEC has not announced details of subsequent phases of the technology investment.
