Jason Collins has begun in his role as an independent director at BESydney, over a three-year term.
Bruce Baird AM, chair of the event bidding organisation said the decision was made after a "thorough due diligence process" and added that "Jason adds tremendous value to our organisation in the incredibly competitive international bidding environment, with strong government and trade global connectivity, particularly within Europe".
Baird was referring to Collins' role as CEO of the European Australian Business Council since 2007. His work includes leading the council in promoting trade and investment between Australia and Europe across companies, government, and other stakeholders.
Collins' influence in the continent is also represented in his position as chair of the European Business Organisations Worldwide, a Brussels-headquartered association consisting European business organisations, chambers of commerce, and other organisations across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
He is also a director at advisory firm Matrix Corporate Marketing, which Collins co-founded in 2002. Another hat worn is as the deputy chair of the Australia Youth Trust.
The veteran takes over outgoing director Bran Black, whom Baird credits for securing "some of the world’s leading international business events – events that showcase Australia’s best practice and drive global economic and social agendas".
