George Koumendakos has been appointed general manager of Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara.

As well as managing daily operations and strategic directions of the 312-key hotel, he will also take charge of enforcing safety measures amid the pandemic and drive more business opportunities in the domestic market.

A seasoned hotelier with 35 years of experience across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa, Koumendakos was most recently general manager of Mövenpick Hotel Colombo, Sri Lanka.

"It’s an absolute pleasure to be taking the helm of this award‐winning hotel at such a defining point in our collective history," said Koumendakos, who enjoys exploring Malaysia's tourist destinations with his wife and two children in his free time.

Meanwhile, Vivian Choa also joins the hotel as director of sales and marketing. She will take charge of all sales, marketing, communications, and event management activities, reporting directly to Koumendakos.

A triathlete and keen swimmer, Choa trains with a swim squad and ride regularly to maintain a healthy work‐life balance.
