Slated to open in December, the new Meliá Phuket Mai Khao Beach is a 30-suite and 70-villa beachfront resort launched by Spanish hotel group, Meliá Hotels International, and owned by Thailand’s real estate developer, Phuket Villa Group.
The 100-key property encompasses more than 32,000sqm of Phuket’s north-western coastline with Mediterranean-inspired accommodations fused with touches of Thai culture. Suites start at 78sqm and 85sqm for villas, with both accommodation types fitted with outdoor bathtubs, open-air showers, and cabanas.
Of the 70 villas, 15 are designated as “wellness villas” that come inclusive of open-air vitamin C showers, daily massages, essential oil diffusers, air purifiers, orthopaedic pillows, and fitness equipment for guests seeking to strengthen their mental and physical wellbeing.
Event planners with larger groups can opt for the resort's biggest meeting space, the Grand Ballroom, which can accommodate a maximum of 100 guests, and can integrate customised catering and wellness sessions into meeting programmes.
Amenities include two pools, a spa, a gym, and a range of water features scattered throughout its vast grounds. For dining, guests have a choice of four F&B options, including all-day dining restaurant SASA that specialises in Southeast Asian cuisine; Gaia Beach Club, a casual dining restaurant with Mediterranean and fusion dishes; and a swim-up pool bar serving up cocktails.
A 15-minute drive from Phuket International Airport and situated in a prime area of Phuket, guests can visit attractions such as the Sirinat National Park, Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation and Wat Phra Thong temple that are in close proximity to the resort.
Thailand recently reopened its borders to international visitors from 63 countries on 1 November, with players such as Minor Hotels indicating a hike in enquiries from overseas event planners.
