The 188-room Alila Shanghai, located in the city's Jing’an District, will boast the use of plenty of earth tones and natural materials.
Hyatt has signed a conversion deal to plant the brand's first Alila flag in Shanghai, with a planned 2023 launch.
The partnership with long-term partner Fungseng Prosperity Holdings will see the development of the 188-room Alila Shanghai, located in the city's Jing’an District, its hotel address conveniently adjacent to Nanjing West Road, a retail, dining and lifestyle hub.
Business guests and event planners can choose from meeting spaces and a private garden in-hotel, or look for alternative options within the mixed-used development which houses Alila Shanghai, offices and retail stores.
Touted as an 'urban utopia', the hotel's design aesthetic looks to evoke calm and relaxation through earth tones and natural materials used in its spacious suites and spaces, as well as a landscaped garden in the fourth-floor lobby inspired by Shanghai’s classical gardens.
The hotel will feature a rooftop Chinese restaurant, an organic-menu focused restaurant, and a rooftop bar overlooking the Old Shanghai Zhang Garden, in addition to spa, gym, indoor pool facilities.
David Udell, group president, Asia Pacific for Hyatt, said: "As we continue to prioritise thoughtful growth of our luxury and lifestyle brands around the world to meet guests’ desire for serenity and discovery, Alila Shanghai presents a unique opportunity to transform and revitalise an existing building into a new offering that will add great value to Shanghai’s hotel scene."
William Doo, chairman of Fungseng Prosperity, added: “With its distinctive garden-in-the-city concept, we are confident that Alila Shanghai will offer an authentic and refreshing experience for business and leisure travellers alike."
The first Alila hotel opened in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2001, and Hyatt said it remains committed to growing the Alila footprint in Asia, with both Alila Taihu, China and Alila Dalit Bay in Sabah Malaysia, scheduled for end-2021 launch on top of Alila Shanghai in 2023.
Outside of Asia, Alila Napa Valley in St. Helena, California has just opened — marking Hyatt’s 1,000th hotel worldwide — while the Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas in Encinitas, California and Alila Hinu Bay in Oman, are both set for openings this year.
