Fairmont debuts in Sanya

Set to open in December 2020, the luxury brand has planted a flag in Haitang Bay, a tax-free zone favoured by incentive planners.

Accor is gearing up to open its first Fairmont Resort in China, following the rebrand (and extensive renovation) of the Wanda Vista Resort Sanya. Set to open in December 2020, the Fairmont Sanya Haitang Bay features views overlooking the diving hotspot of Wuzhizhou Island and Yajia Daling Mountains close by.

To reach the hotel’s guest rooms and facilities, guests can take a dragon boat ride along a 1,200-metre long river – the world’s first sea water canal running within a hotel.

Fairmont Sanya Haitang Bay offers 523 guest rooms, suites and residential apartments, some of them housed within a Fairmont Gold Tower – the brand’s gold standard and ‘hotel within a hotel’ concept, which is an option for top-tier incentive groups.

The resort features a nine-hole golf course, signature Willow Stream Spa, gym, three outdoor pools, as well as full conference and banquet facilities – including a 1,500 sqm pillarless ballroom, nine meeting rooms and a private VIP function room.

On the destination front, Fairmont’s choice of Sanya for its debut in Greater China has proven strategic.

Accor Greater China’s chairman and chief operating officer, Gary Rosen, said: "With the roll-out of the masterplan for Hainan's free trade port, Hainan Island will create impactful opportunities, mostly with tourism services and high-tech industries."
