Crowne Plaza butters up to Penang

Crowne Plaza Penang Butterworth is set to be the jewel in mega-waterfront development Straits City's crown in 2024.

Crowne Plaza Penang Butterworth Straits City will be opening its doors in 2024 as the flagship hotel for Straits City, anchoring the upscale mixed-use development on Butterworth Penang's waterfront.

Owned by STC Property Management, the developer of Straits City, and managed by IHG, the 343-room Crowne Plaza Penang Butterworth Straits City will overlook the Straits of Penang, while Georgetown is a half-hour drive away.

The hotel, which will mark the first phase of the Straits City development, will be equipped with a retail podium, as well as extensive MICE facilities.

Envisioned as a "Future City", Straits City, a project master planned by The Straits Trading Company and Malaysia Smelting Corporation, incorporates green technologies and features such as pedestrian-link bridges, walkways, and cycling paths spanning its total of 16 hectares promoting sustainable living and spaces designed for communal interaction.

The development is strategically located a mere five-minute drive to Penang Sentral, the northern region transportation hub of Malaysia, and easy access to all major roads and highways in the area, including the Butterworth Outer Ring Road.
