Come 2023, Southeast Asia's first Mondrian hotel will debut in the heart of Singapore's prominent Duxton Hill neighbourhood.
Mondrian Singapore forms part of Accor's plans to expand the brand globally following its acquisition of sbe's hotel brands. It also comes on the heels of Accor's recently announced planned venture with Ennismore, a move which is expected to position the French hotel chain into a lifestyle powerhouse that includes Mondrian hotels.
Chadi Farhat, COO of sbe, said: "We are thrilled to bring the iconic Mondrian brand to Singapore's Duxton Hill neighbourhood. Mondrian is a natural fit for a global destination like Singapore. The property will provide a cultural hub of food and beverage experiences for locals and travellers alike. Mondrian Singapore will be more than a hotel; it will be a destination."
The 300-room luxury lifestyle hotel will combine historic architecture from Singapore's centuries-old shophouses with a new build of modern, contemporary influences.
A collaboration between DP Architects and Studio Carter, Mondrian Singapore will feature a lower three-storey building in a contemporary take on the famous Singapore 'shophouse' building typology. This portion of the hotel features a terracotta roof and colonial-style window shutters and will include the hotel's premier guest accommodations in loft suites.
A new, contemporary tower will house the majority of the hotel's guestrooms as well as a rooftop pool, a signature restaurant and a speakeasy bar designed by sbe subsidiary Dakota Development.
Both buildings will be connected by a landscaped deck designed as an urban oasis.
Located 20 minutes from the iconic Changi Airport and within walking distance to the major business district, Accor expects the property to be a draw for global travellers looking to immerse themselves in local cultural explorations while being in close proximity to the major transportation hub.
Other Mondrian properties currently in the works include Mondrian Shoreditch London (opening Q2 2021), Mondrian Bordeaux and Mondrian Cannes in France (opening 2022), and Mondrian Gold Coast (opening 2023).
After Singapore, Accor said other upcoming Mondrian properties in the Dominican Republic, Germany, the Maldives, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Thailand and Vietnam are expected to be announced soon.
