Borneo Convention Centre Kuching's (BCCK) annual Ramadhan special is back, offering diners the same delicious offerings plus the creation of special safe 'bubbles' to minimise interaction between diners.
The Juh Sungkei di BCCK, which translates to 'now everyone can buka puasa' (break fast), is an in-house event which attracted nearly 38,000 back in 2019 before the pandemic hit.
“Our aim is to provide our customers with the same excellent standard of food variety, service, ambiance and dining experience to our diners that Juh Sungkei has become known for, while also going the extra mile to ensure that the health and safety of our diners are safeguarded,” said Eric Van Piggelen, CEO, BCCK.
With safety top of mind, the most distinct change will be the Ramadhan Bubbles. The entire convention centre will be split into separate zones, with each Bubble seating a maximum of 200 diners. Within the Bubbles, there will also be separate dining halls, food preparation areas, serving staff as well as separate restroom facilities from other Bubbles, throughout the night.
Diners will be given a menu sheet to select their desired dishes, after which service staff will pick up from a food island and deliver the food to tables, eliminating food or utensils contact.
On the food front, the spread will cover dishes such as roasted lamb leg, slow roast beef topside in sweet hoi sin marinate, roasted crispy duck and chicken, stewed lamb in claypot, pak lo duck and a selection of chicken, fish and vegetable curries cooked in a claypot.
Local favourites include beef and chicken satay, beef rendang, daging masak hitam, stir fried butter Prawns, bubur lambuk, bubur pedas and fried kueh teow.
International tastes are also on the menu: Lebanese shawarma, Arabian manakesh, Hong Kong dim sum, Spanish poultry paella rice and Korean kimchi chicken stew.
“We have made a lot of changes to accommodate the new normal and our experienced and knowledgeable team are fully trained and equipped to execute continual sanitisation and hygiene measures at all time. We’re also maintaining the same amount of food variety we’ve upheld for years," said Van Piggelen, who added that despite more costs involved, BCCK will continue to price the Ramadhan special from RM$50 (US$12) — just like in 2020.
From 13 April to 12 May, diners can make their bookings at BCCK's website online, the dine-in e-vouchers redeemable directly on their mobile devices. Walk-ins are priced at RM$100 nett per adult and RM$50 nett per child aged between 5-12 years old.
Corporate clients can also make group bookings at RM$85 nett per pax, for groups of a minimum of 10 pax, as well as a Meeting Package at RM$120 nett per pax.
Understanding that having "a bigger family reunion is rather challenging," the halal-certified BCCK will also be including options for self-collection and delivery throughout Kuching.
