Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE) 2021 is back this month on a digital platform, zooming into Asia Pacific, Middle East, Europe and UK, as well as updating Penang's upgraded events infrastructure for the future.
Malaysia’s only homegrown business events trade show will live stream from 25-26 October for the Asia Pacific and Middle East markets, followed by another session from 28-29 October for the Europe and UK markets.
Just as its first digital run — pivoting to virtual last year — the PITE 2021 Digital Show will offer business matching between buyers and exhibitors, virtual networking sessions and some education sessions.
About 100 buyers are expected to attend the digital show, with 40 exhibitors from throughout Malaysia.
“As we start to prepare for the possibility of international travel soon, it is important for us to proceed with our existing marketing efforts, while still revolving around the message of safety and security in travel and in organising events,” said Ashwin Gunasekeran, CEO of PCEB during his speech.
Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy added that despite Covid-19's challenges, including strict movement control orders, the destination remains "committed to reaching out to key markets internationally".
"Through PITE 2021 Digital Show, we will continue to showcase the available infrastructure and upgraded facilities that can cater to physical events in the future, as well as host large virtual and hybrid events.
With Malaysia recently lifting interstate travels upon hitting a 90% vaccination rate for its population, Yeoh pointed out that Penang is "one of the leading states in vaccination rates for first and second doses, and as of 8 October, the total 1st dose vaccinations for adults in Penang has surpassed the 80% benchmark".
“Soon, I am certain the Malaysian borders will be opened for international guests, and I assure you that Penang is ready, prepared and all set to welcome them,” said Yeoh.
