Change of plans: ITB Asia goes full virtual

Organiser explains the "difficult decision" to axe plans for the onsite event in Singapore.

ITB Asia 2021, in conjunction with MICE Show Asia and Travel Tech Asia, will take place completely virtually from 25 to 29 October this year.

Originally bound for Singapore from 27 to 29 October, the mega travel trade show had already secured 600 exhibitors. The physical component has now been postponed, expected to return to Singapore's Sands Expo & Convention Centre on 19 – 22 October 2022.

"After close observations of international developments of the Covid-19 pandemic and extensive conversations with local authorities and partners, the show organisers made the difficult decision to move the show completely virtual [this year]," Messe Berlin (Singapore) announced in a statement.

The organisers came to the decision "after careful consideration", as Singapore moves to Phase 3 (heightened alert), limiting MICE events to 250 attendees.

Messe Berlin (Singapore) further pointed to the recent surge in infections in the Asia-Pacific region, leading to a dimmed outlook for the aviation sector, and undermining previous optimism among travellers as regional countries tighten border controls and travel restrictions.

ITB Asia Virtual, held virtually second year in a row, will again be hosted on ITB Community in Asia. The virtual event previously concluded with a record participation of almost 35,000 travel professionals.

Messe Berlin (Singapore) is expecting an even stronger response this year with the longer lead time and as countries around the world plan for tourism recovery.

The upcoming event will comprise five full days of business appointments and three days of conference programme. All conference sessions will be available on-demand for a month.

Attendees can look forward to highlights including:
• Community Activity Feed – An interactive social networking page to share
insights, articles and participate in group discussions.

• Conference (26-28 October only) – A line-up of key industry speakers with thought-providing insights or showcases of innovative technology and solutions.

• Supplier Directory – A view of all suppliers, such as company
profiles, product resources and downloadable articles.

• Knowledge Library – Resource library of trade articles, white papers on travel
destinations, research reports and content by industry bellwethers and trade
partners.

• On-demand Videos – Access to videos from virtual events or industry contributors.

Exhibitors will also enjoy new perks such as business card download functions, extra trade visitor passes, more comprehensive advertising bundles, co-exhibitor benefits, speaking opportunities and unlimited meeting slots.

Virtual booth packages range from US$500+ per digital booth to US$12,000+ per pavilion.
