Taiwan hosts landmark International MICE Round Table Summit

To grow the international visibility of Taiwan's MICE industry, the International Trade Administration (TITA) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs hosted the International MICE Round Table Summit from 3-5 June 2024.

The summit aimed to strengthen connections with global MICE organisations and CVBs from various countries to Taiwan, while showcasing Taiwan’s impressive MICE environment and vibrant local culture.

This event marked the first time that TITA is organising the International MICE Round Table Summit, following its achievement of the "Industry Partner Award" from UFI at the end of last year.

Some 15 prominent figures in the international MICE industry, including Ori Lahav, former president of the International Association of Professional Congress Organizers (IAPCO), David Harrison, board member of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), Larry Mullin, chairman of the U.S. Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Matt Pearce, vice-president of the Australian Business Events Association, gathered in Taiwan to interact and exchange ideas with local MICE professionals, providing valuable insights for Taiwan's MICE industry.

During the summit, attendees visited renowned events like 2024 COMPUTEX Taipei and 2024 Taiwan International Fastener Show, which offered a look into Taiwan’s low-carbon, energy-efficient exhibition practices and innovative use of AI tour guides and 3D modelling technology. They also toured major MICE cities such as Taipei, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, experiencing local culture and interacting with government and industry stakeholders.

The summit concluded with a roundtable session where international and Taiwanese MICE professionals discussed sustainability, technology & AI, and destination marketing. Edward Liu, honorary chairman of the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA), highlighted Taiwan’s leadership in promoting sustainable MICE activities in Southeast Asia. Taiwan’s advanced use of AI in event tracking, digital registration, and crowd control received high praise from international attendees.

Knowledge exchanges during the summit reaffirmed Taiwan's focus on sustainability and technology as the right development direction. Moving forward, MEET TAIWAN will continue to focus on these aspects to ensure that Taiwan's MICE industry maintains a pioneering position in the global MICE market. MEET TAIWAN also compiled the Round Table professionals' suggestions into an organised document to serve as an important reference for the development of Taiwan's MICE industry.
