Messe Frankfurt, a leading trade fair organiser, is ramping up its investments in southeast Asia by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE).

The MoU, which was signed in March, aims to explore the potential of hosting a new trade fair, initially focusing on the thriving textiles and consumer goods industries in Vietnam. Messe Frankfurt already has a strong presence in Vietnam, with its existing portfolio of successful trade fairs such as Secutech Vietnam and Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City.

Wolfgang Marzin, President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt, expressed his excitement about the venture, saying, “Vietnam has emerged as a standout country in Asia with strong performance in the textile, manufacturing, and other industries. This new partnership has the potential to build on our 16 years of experience in Vietnam and create new opportunities for textile and consumer goods trade in the country, among other sectors.”

Vu Ba Phu, Director General of VIETRADE, also lauded the partnership, noting that it aligns with the government's goal of deeper integration into global supply chains. The textile industry in Vietnam has shown stable growth during the pandemic, with opportunities to leverage Messe Frankfurt's extensive experience in developing textile trade fairs globally.

With over 40 events in Asia, including 11 textile business-focused events such as Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics, Messe Frankfurt brings substantial expertise in growing new trade fairs in the region. According to Fibre2Fashion, Vietnam had the fastest-growing economy in Asia in 2022, with textile and garment exports up 14.7% compared to the previous year.
