All eyes are on the Chinese MICE market

With one month leading up to IBTM China, organisers have reported a strong uptake among corporate hosted buyer registrations from Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, Russia, South Korea and Europe, as well as a large domestic proportion from China.

Over 150 buyers have confirmed their attendance for the 2018 event held in Beijing from September 12-13. These include brands including IKEA, Johnson & Johnson Medical Companies (Shanghai), DBS Bank, Mary Kay China, Carrefour China, Lenovo, NTUC Income, Philips, and Provident Capital Group Inc..

This year, corporate buyers comprise 30% of the total, and with an average of 15 new signups approved each week, organisers are expecting the final number will hit 350.

To date, organisers say that two major hosted buyer groups have been confirmed, including Merak, a MICE tech company, which will bring 20 high quality corporate buyers from Shanghai, and Accor Hotels Group, which will bring 10 buyers from Singapore and Malaysia.

Nicole Ci, event manager, IBTM China, says: "We are delighted with the number and high calibre of Hosted Buyer registrations so far, especially as achieving such a high percentage of corporate Hosted Buyers is not easy in the Chinese market. To have so many high profile corporate buyers in one place is a strong draw for exhibitors looking to attend, make connections and ultimately do business in the region."

Several new international exhibitors have confirmed for this year's event including: Meliá Serengeti Lodge, Corinthia Hotels, West Prairie Tourism, GL Events, Astana CVB and Russia CVB, as well as returning exhibitors such as San Francisco Travel Association, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau and South African Tourism.

Organised yearly, IBTM China gathers over 5,000 global meetings industry professionals for two days of pre-scheduled business meetings.
