The reveal of Porsche’s first electric sport utility vehicle, the Macan, featured a stunning drone display and energetic light and water performances set against the iconic Marina Bay skyline.
In today’s event landscape, the “wow” factor is more essential than ever. Attendees now crave experiential events that blend distinct local culture, sophistication, and meaningful interactions.
Singapore recently delivered on all fronts by hosting the Porsche Global Dealer Launch, a first-of-its-kind event in Asia that was held from 8-22 March 2024 and left a lasting impression for 1,800 of Porsche’s top stakeholders and dealers from over 100 countries.
Why Singapore?
For Porsche, selecting Singapore as the host destination for this landmark event was an easy decision. With its strategic location in Asia, Singapore boasts excellent connectivity and infrastructure, making it an ideal hub for international gatherings. Singapore’s commitment to sustainability, highlighted by the Green Plan 2030 to drive electric vehicle adoption and reduce land transport emissions, resonated with Porsche’s values of innovation and environmental stewardship.
“Singapore’s blend of culture, heritage, and tradition creates a unique and vibrant atmosphere, while looking clearly forward with an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit,” said Ragnar Schulte, head of global events, Porsche AG. “Singapore is home to many first-class facilities, making it an ideal location for hosting large-scale conventions that appropriately embody luxury.”
Crafting “wow” experiences
The Porsche Global Dealer Launch was more than a product reveal; it was a two-week, seven-wave extravaganza, each featuring a specially curated 3-day, 2-night programme. This included tailored experiences and exclusive showcases that transformed Singapore into a dynamic canvas for event innovation.
The Porsche Global Dealer Launch impressed guests with a one-of-a-kind experience – including a guest appearance by global brand ambassador Dua Lipa. One of the highlights was the Macan reveal at Marina Bay Sands. Set against the iconic backdrop of the Marina Bay skyline, the event featured a dazzling drone display, water and light shows, and live performances, culminating in a showcase of Porsche’s new electric Macan, new Panamera luxury saloon, and newly upgraded Taycan electric sports car.
Behind the scenes, orchestrating an event of such scale was a complex feat, said Alexis Lhoyer, co-founder and chief business officer at Chab Events, the Singapore partner of Porsche’s event marketing company Vok Dams.
Guests enjoyed a scenic boat ride across the marina to the vehicle launch at Marina Bay Sands.“The challenge was using Singapore’s public spaces as venues while creating a meaningful story for both the brand and its dealers with high impact,” said Lhoyer. “This was part of the experience we wanted to create, from their dinner at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore to the bumboat rides across the river to Marina Bay Sands for the vehicle reveal.”
Every element, from the exquisite dinner at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore to the captivating boat ride from Esplanade Jetty to Marina Bay Sands to the after-party fashion show at Cé La Vi, was meticulously curated to immerse delegates in the vibrant sights and sounds of Singapore.
Workshops hosted at the Porsche Studio Singapore at Guoco Midtown, along with sessions in The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore’s ballroom, provided valuable opportunities for attendees to gain market insights and explore key business topics such as marketing strategies and customer engagement.
Showcasing flexibility and efficiency
With no permanent race circuit venue, Porsche worked with the Changi Exhibition Centre to build a bespoke test track for dealers that was safe and logistically precise.Without a permanent race circuit venue in Singapore, the Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC) was transformed into a bespoke test track for the Macan, allowing delegates to experience the vehicle’s capabilities first-hand.
The CEC team worked under tight timelines, with only two days to prepare the site after the Singapore Airshow concluded at the same venue. This included removing existing infrastructure, modifying structures, and ensuring the purpose-built track met Porsche’s specific requirements.
“We collaborated intensively with various contractors within a compressed timeframe of two days, with everything handed over promptly,” said a CEC spokesperson. Safety was a top priority, with barriers, barricades, and temporary markings placed to guide drivers during test sessions.
Seamless collaboration and coordination
Guiding the convoy of Porsche cars through the city required facilitation from various local government agencies to ensure a safe and smooth travel.Singapore’s logistical capacities were crucial for the event’s success. Collaboration with local agencies, from securing permits for the Marina Bay Sands vehicle reveal to managing the convoy of 65 Porsche cars through the city, was seamless.
"During the two years of preparation and three weeks of on-site execution, all partners and suppliers involved were fully dedicated and performed excellently,” said Schulte.
Lhoyer also emphasised the efficiency of working with various local authorities, from the Urban Redevelopment Authority and Singapore Land Authority to the Singapore Police Force, who helped ensure the event run smoothly.
“There’s a very clear process, and the people in these agencies are dedicated to facilitating and making things possible,” added Lhoyer. “In other markets, flexibility can be challenging, but in Singapore, everyone worked together – coordinated by the Singapore Tourism Board – to make the impossible possible.”
A testament to Singapore’s MICE capabilities
With dancers and Marina Bay Sands’ water and light show putting on stunning performances, the Porsche Global Dealer Launch event pulled out all the stops. The success of the Porsche Global Dealer Launch underscores Singapore’s versatility as a world-class event destination. The country’s strategic location, cutting-edge facilities, and well-established MICE ecosystem offer brands a solid platform to create memorable, large-scale events.
“The logistic precision and collaboration with local partners were key to our event’s success,” said Schulte. “We were also very impressed by the outstanding service mentality and tech-driven mindset demonstrated by everyone involved in supporting our event, two core strengths that made Singapore stand out.”
Singapore’s ability to deliver on large-scale, innovative events is unparalleled, making it the ultimate stage for event planners to create impactful experiences.
