The Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers
(MACEOS) has launched its 2022-2030 strategic roadmap in a bid to
strengthen the country's business events (BE) industry as Malaysia
reopens for travel.
Malaysia's
BE industry was a key pre-pandemic revenue generator, bringing in
540,000 international business visitors from 1,138 events, and
contributing an estimated RM3.9 billion in direct expenditure and RM9.2
billion in economic impact to the country. It was, however, also one of
its worst-hit sectors during the pandemic, with restrictions and
lockdowns practically paralysing the industry. According to MACEOS, the
industry suffered a 90% loss in revenue, affecting 35,000 people in its
workforce.
The association's new roadmap outlines the strategies intended to
guide the industry's recovery and sustainability over the next nine
years, highlighting the importance of data-driven value creation for BE,
as well as emphasising innovation, development, education, and
advocacy.
