The Green Events Tool (GET), a web-based system used to measure the carbon footprint of United Nations conferences, will now be made available to measure business event emissions.
The Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE) methodology developed for the business events industry will be integrated into the GET, enhancing its capabilities and aligning them with the industry’s specific needs.
The initiative follows a collaboration formed between the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD), which manages the tool and the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC), which hosts the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative for the conference, events and exhibitions industries worldwide. The partnership was announced at last month’s COP29, which was hosted in Baku in Azerbaijan.
James Rees, president of the JMIC said: “This is a very exciting development for Net Zero Carbon Events and for the industry. It takes our cooperation and integration with the United Nations’ standards on measurement a significant step forward. The joint launch event at COP29 and the signing of an MoU between both institutions marks a commitment to substantive discussions, paving a pathway to future collaboration.”
