By the numbers

394 guests welcomed

367 hotel staff deployed

4,455+ meals served

5,700+ eggs cracked

1,000+ bottles of wine and beer opened

100+ rounds of flashmob dance practice

What’s the best form of recognition for an event well done? When attendees create a heartfelt photo book of testimonials as a thank-you gift to the host hotel.

That’s exactly what happened at Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit after hosting the First National Real Estate National Convention. Delegates from one of Australasia’s largest independent real estate networks compiled snapshots of their favorite moments, penned personal notes of gratitude, and presented the keepsake to General Manager Sammy Carulous and his team.

Turning challenges into opportunities

One attendee summed it up in the photo book: “Our event went as smooth as silk!”

Bringing a large-scale convention to life is never easy, especially during a global pandemic, but Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit rose to the challenge and delivered a seamless event.

The First National Real Estate National Convention brought 394 guests, including spouses, to the hotel in May 2022. With 266 out of 277 rooms booked, the hotel was operating at near full capacity.

Planning began when travel was still uncertain, and the contract was signed during Thailand’s ‘Test & Go’ scheme. Over 10 virtual brainstorming and planning sessions, the client remained confident in their vision and placed full trust in Hyatt Regency Bangkok’s expertise, working closely together to craft out-of-the-box experiences that would bring unique flair to the convention.

“This event was especially meaningful for us. As the first major MICE group to visit Thailand post-pandemic, it marked a moment of renewal and excitement. Seeing the hotel come alive with such an energetic and dynamic group reminded us of the vibrant hospitality we had long awaited to revive,” said Carulous.

Innovative at every turn

From the moment the guests arrived at the airport to the time they departed, every detail was designed to surprise and delight.

Life-size standees of the First National Real Estate head office team greeted guests at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, appearing again at registration desks, breakfast venues, and even inside elevators, creating fun, photo-worthy moments.

Giant 2m inflatable balls made an unexpected entrance during the opening ceremony, filling the 6m-high Regency Ballroom with playful energy, while a flash mob by hotel staff during lunch caught everyone off guard, turning into a spontaneous dance party as guests eagerly joined in.

"From reimagining layouts to creating a more personalised experience in every corner of the space, every detail pushed us beyond what we had previously done."

A rooftop afternoon tea for the CEO’s wife’s gathering was reimagined at Spectrum Lounge & Bar, which usually seats 40. The team reconfigured the indoor space to fit 58 guests with a specially crafted menu and stunning skyline views.

The Regency Ballroom transformed into a disco wonderland for the gala dinner, complete with a light-up dance floor, hundreds of disco balls, and vibrant lighting for an unforgettable Disco Night Theme Party.

The event challenged the hotel to experiment with new ways to utilise its 1,359sqm meeting spaces. “From reimagining layouts to creating a more personalised experience in every corner of the space, every detail pushed us beyond what we had previously done,” said Carulous.

Teambuilding and giving back

The experience extended beyond the hotel, incorporating an Amazing Race-style challenge across Bangkok, with guests hopping into tuk-tuks and the BTS Skytrain for an interactive cultural and team-bonding experience.

First National Real Estate also gave back to the local community. Through the First National Foundation, they donated 125,000 THB to the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability, a long-time partner of Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, supporting individuals with disabilities in the region.

Setting the standards

This convention wasn’t just a success – it was one of the first major MICE events in Thailand post-pandemic, earning recognition from the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

“Most memorably, this event brought our entire hotel team together like never before. With limited external support post-pandemic, we relied entirely on our in-house staff – from housekeeping and stewards to bartenders. Everyone stepped up beyond their usual roles, and worked together seamlessly to bring every idea to life.”
