PERTH - Business Events Perth has snagged the bid to host Asia Pacific's largest agri-tech trade event in 2021, which is expected to bring some 1,500 delegates into Western Australia.

evokeAG, previously held in Melbourne for the past two years, will take place in Perth for the first time from Feb 16-17, 2021. Business Events Perth partnered with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation to secure the event.

Organisers are expecting delegates from more than 20 countries to attend the show, from primary producers, small and medium businesses, start-ups, investors, researchers, innovators, universities and corporates to showcase their products and attract investors.

"Securing the evokeAG conference for Perth is a great opportunity for Western Australia to showcase our expertise in the agri-tech sector to the world. It is testament to the strength of the sector that this will be the first time the event is held outside of Victoria," said Mr Gareth Martin, CEO of Business Events Perth.

Business conferences and events are a crucial part of Western Australia's tourism industry. Over the past two years, the sector generated around A$153 million (US$101 million) in visitor spend for the state's economy.

"Primary industries and tourism are part of the six priority economic sectors identified for growth by Diversify WA and Business Events Perth is focused on securing more conference events in these sectors as a key catalyst to promote a thriving economy in Western Australia," added Mr Martin.
