AUCKLAND - New Zealand's business events association, CINZ, has launched a one-day industry event in December to help kickstart business recovery.

BE Reconnected, which will be held at Auckland's Vodafone Events Centre on 1 December 2020, will replace the postponed Meetings exhibition that was originally scheduled from 22-23 April. It will be followed by the CINZ 2020 Conference and Annual General Meeting on 2 December.

Last year, CINZ's annual Meetings trade show generated over NZ$62 million (US$37.2 million) during its two days in Auckland.

CINZ chief executive, Lisa Hopkins said that New Zealand's NZ$500-million-dollar business events industry "has suffered immense losses and must be given every opportunity to recover".

"We have been looking at different ways to reconnect our members with customers, channels and each other, as part of the industry's overall business recovery strategy.

Business events is the highest-yielding component of New Zealand's visitor economy.

Since the impact of the coronavirus, "there has been no business or revenue for many" she said.

At the start of 2020, the industry was poised for enormous growth with the opening of conference venues, four and five-star hotels, national infrastructure, expanded airlines routes and new attractions.

CINZ is committed to its "responsibility to plan and prepare for the recovery".

"Our plan is to show both domestic and international clients that we are stronger, more passionate and more committed than ever to reconnect our customers with the incredible destinations, experiences and people of New Zealand, when a handshake, a hongi or a hug is no longer prohibited," she says.

BE Reconnected will place greater emphasis on maximising face time with customers than on an extensive programme and exhibition.
