Phuket has been selected to host the Global Sustainable Tourism
Council (GSTC) 2026 global conference in April 2026, announced the
Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).
As a central agency in proposing Phuket as the GSTC host, TCEB has
been working with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Sustainable
Tourism Development Foundation, the Designated Areas for Sustainable
Tourism Administration, and local agencies in preparing the southern
island of Phuket to organise the world-class event.
Under the theme of “Regenerative Tourism,” the conference anticipates
more than 700 participants from 60 countries, including sustainability
experts and stakeholders from the travel, tourism, and hospitality
sectors. The estimated economic impact of the event is projected to
exceed 50 million baht, contributing significantly to the local economy.
TCEB stated that hosting the GSTC 2026 conference would not only
enhance Phuket's global standing but also elevate the profile of the
Andaman economic corridor, encompassing provinces like Phuket, Krabi,
Phang Nga, Ranong, Trang, and Satun. This opportunity underscores
Thailand's commitment to sustainable tourism practices and positions
Phuket as a leader in this vital sector.
Following Sweden's hosting of the GSTC2024 Global Sustainable Tourism
Conference in Stockholm in April, Singapore is set to host the upcoming
GSTC conference in Sentosa from 13-16 November 2024.
