The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and its subsidiary the Corporate Event Marketing Association (CEMA), has hired Junior Tauvaa as chief business officer, responsible for overseeing the body’s events and education, CEMA at the strategic level, the Convene publication and product development teams.

Tauvaa, a business events and destination marketing executive, was previously chief sales officer with Visit Anaheim for nine years, and will join PCMA in January next year.

He has been instrumental in raising the profile of Anaheim and Orange County in the US as a premier business events and leisure destination, having opened ACC North, the Anaheim Convention Center’s most recent expansion. He also launched the Orange County Sports Commission.

His involvement with Destinations International’s Large Market Roundtable resulted in the introduction of the Destination Booking Agreement (DBA) for Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs), which establishes mutually agreeable terms to protect both the destination and the business events strategist, in light of event cancellations.

PCMA and CEMA president and CEO Sherrif Karamat said: “Junior’s collaborative leadership approach and vast knowledge of the association and destination marketing landscape rounds out our executive leadership team exceptionally well as we prepare to introduce new and exciting initiatives to the global business events industry.”

Commenting on his appointment Tauvaa said: “I look forward to my next chapter with the global PCMA team and community as we work collaboratively to test new business models, identify, and deliver new solutions for complex challenges, ultimately increasing the value for organisations seeking to deliver content, conduct commerce, build community, and create engaging experiences.”
