At the recent IMEX Frankfurt, AEG Ogden, venue operator for Te Pae Christchurch in New Zealand, announced that the project was 50% done and was well on its way to completion by October 2020.

"The building is now 50% complete with all structural steel elements in place and the roofing and façade being applied and the 1,400-seat auditorium is taking shape. You can really see the scale and the beauty of the spaces, particularly the wonderful ballroom with views over the Avon River and surrounding parklands," said Ross Steele, general manager of Te Pae Christchurch.

Te Pae Christchurch is part of the local government's vision to create a dynamic entertainment precinct along the banks of the Avon River.

"For a historic city such as Christchurch, it's a rare opportunity for a convention centre to be the focal point of a city's urban redevelopment," Steele added. "With Te Pae Christchurch's spectacular city centre location and easy walking distance to 2,500 hotel rooms backed by supporting meetings industry infrastructure, it is not surprising Christchurch and Te Pae are capturing global attention".

Even before its completion, Te Pae Christchurch has already secured several high-profile events, such as:

    •    2020 INTECOL's 11th International Wetlands Conference, 1,000 delegates
    •    2021 Congress of the Federation of Asian & Oceanian Biochemists & Molecular Biochemists (FAOBMB), 1,000 delegates
    •    2021 International Congress on Biological Invasions (ICBI 2021), 800 delegates
    •    2021 International Education Conference, 700 delegates
    •    2021 Australasian College for Emergency Medicine Annual Conference, 700 delegates
