Kindness leads to powerful positive consequences, and the inaugural Kind Malaysia 2018 launched this October to recognise, inspire and showcase responsible businesses that do good for society, initiated positive repercussions throughout its three-day event.

Taking place at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) October 24 to 26, and collaborating with United Business Media (M) Sdn Bhd (UBM), chief executive officer of MITEC Gunther Beissel commented it was "truly an honour to partner and host Kind Malaysia with UBM."

The spotlight on responsible businesses paid forward to shine on MITEC's own CSR programme #myWorld, which launched earlier this year and focuses on increasing sustainability and reducing environmental impact. It is committed to achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as Global Goals, which pinpoint poverty, planet, peace and prosperity.

The specific goals MITEC focuses on are Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Life on Land and Partnerships for the Goals.

"Each Goal sees us partnering with an organisation that can help us echo the message and our humble achievements are testimony to the endless opportunities when working hand in hand with our community," says Beissel.

Up to now the #myWorld programme has collaborated with the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia's health screenings, and organised clean-up operations across 2,000sqm of MITEC's Dutamas neighbourhood.

MITEC set up a "Tree of Hope" at Kind Malaysia, with the aim to spread the word of the Global Goals and encourage others to "Let the Tree of Hope blossom with the act of kindness". By the end of the event, 237 visitors had pledged a commitment to sustainability, showing how the power of kindness spreads positive action.
