KUCHING - Fresh from celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) has laid on plans for major upgrades next year, including adding state-of the-art audio and visual technology to its repertoire.

In wrapping up the year 2019 and celebrating a decade of success, BCCK said during its 10th Anniversary Gala on Nov 27 that it is moving towards another 10 years of purpose-driven growth, continued excellence and expansion into the global business events market, which has garnered a global GDP value of US$1.5 trillion.

In view of this potential, BCCK said it looks forward to expanding its global presence by hosting international and prestigious events, as well as expanding physically as a venue to facilitate more and larger events in the future in Kuching, paving the way for it to become a cornerstone in business events in the region.

"BCCK has seen great success over the past 10 years, and we look forward to another 10 years of success and growth in the international Business Events industry," said BCCK chairman Datuk Hajjah Raziah Mahmud-Geneid.

BCCK was the first purpose-built venue in Sarawak, designed to host a myriad of events from large conferences and exhibitions, to smaller meetings, within one venue. It first opened its doors in 2009 and has since hosted over 1,800 events and over 2.4 million delegates and visitors.

Over the years, the centre has positioned itself as an award-winning convention, earning the International Association of Convention Centre (AIPC) Gold Quality Standard Certification, which places the centre in an elite group of only 23 other AIPC convention centres in the world to receive such an honour, out of more than 185 international convention centres.

BCCK's impact on Sarawak has been substantial, delivering over MYR266.7 million (US$63.8 million) in total economic impact since 2013, as well as contributing a value of over MYR92 million to the Sarawak local business-supply-chain network since 2009. BCCK has also directly contributed actively to local CSR causes, partners and charities since 2009.
