From Macau to Malaysia, the region's selection of integrated resorts is fast-capturing the imagination of the MICE industry.

Across Asia, MICE-driven events are increasingly being held at integrated resorts. The advantages of such properties are clear: more options for meetings as well as extra varied entertainment, recreational and team-building options, not to mention impressive tailor-themed settings that make any event, meeting or convention memorable.

Studio City

"Macau has always been an integrated resort destination, where everything is under one roof, but at Studio City, one may be transported into a different setting, away from meeting rooms, which keeps things varied," explains Grant Johnson, Studio City's vice president for sales and marketing. The US$3.2 billion Studio City features over 4,000 square metres of event space including a 1,820sqm Grand Ballroom, as well as eight salon rooms. From lavish banquets to international conferences, all spaces can be configured and thematically transformed.

Sunway Resort City comprises a 5,600sqm convention centre, over 55 function rooms, countless themed outdoor venues, a cluster of three hotels offering more than 1,400 guestrooms, suites and pool villas; a theme park, a shopping mall with over 900 retail stores and 160 food and beverage outlets, all of which are within walking distance and linked by covered walkways. Opened in February 2016, the 401-room Sunway Pyramid Hotel is the integrated resort's latest addition. The property features a restaurant, five function rooms with capacity for 20 to 150 persons, a gym and a swimming pool.

Since its opening, Mission Hills Haikou has transformed from a golf club into a fully integrated resort destination. The group's "golf and more" leisure philosophy has catalysed its tourism-related business expansion. The latest development projects include the 500,000sqm Mission Hills Centreville Haikou, which was opened on 1 February 2016. This low-carbon-footprint urban complex incorporates hotels, offices, park, shopping, culture and art, and is set to become the trendiest lifestyle destination in Hainan. The complex is strategically compartmentalised into four zones: Lan Kwai Fong Entertainment Zone, Quarry Lake, Fashion Avenue and China Grove, each of which has a distinctive personality, and offers a variety of retail, dining, entertainment and lifestyle options.

The Mission Hills • Huayi Brothers • Feng Xiaogang Movie-Themed Town that held its grand opening in 2014 has become a major entertainment and commercial district in Haikou. The 930,000sqm site showcases six professional movie studios, as well as numerous dining, entertainment, shopping, cinema, cafe, bar and hotel facilities.
